"LEGAL AND LEGISLATIVE INITIATIVES" -
THEME FOR FLORIDA'S VOICE CONFERENCE

The morning session will consist of personal stories by family members of their legal and legislative experiences; a history and system overview of the Agency for Persons with Disabilities and the Medicaid “tiers” program and a governmental and legislative panel.

The afternoon session will discuss pending House Bill 81 concerning restraints and seclusion in public schools; the impact on the criminal justice system of the the reduction of behavior services; and a training on appealing the deniaol or reduction of Medicaid Waiver benefits.

The fee, including lunch, is $25 in advance and $40 at the door.

EASTER SEALS BOOK CLUB LOOKING FOR PARTICIPANTS AND VOLUNTEERS

This is a book club through Easter Seals South Florida for adolescents and adults with developmental disabilities who enjoy reading and socializing. Members meet weekly for one hour at local bookstores, coffee shops and cafes to read and discuss a book of their choosing. Anyone can participate, no matter their reading or ability level. Two trained volunteers facilitate each group. They include students, parents, retirees, people with disabilities and various community members.

NATIONAL DISSEMINATION CENTER FOR CHILDREN WITH DISABILITIES

National Dissemination Center for Children with Disabilities has new resources to share:

  • For trainers on IDEA 2004 who work with Spanish-speaking audiences: Eight modules have been translated into Spanish in the Building the Legacy training curriculum on IDEA 2004 and all the participant handouts for all the modules
