Mr. J. is a single father of two-year-old twins with developmental disabilities. He had lost his job because of absences related to taking the twins for medical and therapy appointments. He had a new job, but hadn’t yet received his first paycheck, and couldn’t buy groceries. CCDH was able to provide grocery store gift cards to tide the family over until Mr. J. got paid.
Air conditioning is essential for Ms. M.’s children – three daughters who all have serious respiratory conditions and developmental disabilities. Assistance paying her FPL bill let this cash-strapped single mom – and the girls – all breathe easier. CCDH Family Support Coordinators also helped Ms. M. apply for benefits, childcare, and a better job.
Mrs. G. lost her job when she, unexpectedly, had to assume responsibility for her 15-month old granddaughter who has developmental delays and chronic lung disease. CCDH staff gathered donated children’s furniture – including a crib – and emergency fund dollars were used to purchase a mattress.
At the age of 35, J.G. had achieved more than anyone had ever imagined possible. Born with an intellectual disability, he shared an apartment with a friend and had just celebrated his 8th anniversary working for a local grocery store chain. Illness caused him to miss almost 3 weeks of work. Emergency Assistance Funds helped pay for that month’s rent and enabled him to keep his apartment.
